Dr. Arya Majed – NESC Academy Biography

Arya is a mechanical engineering consultant with 27 years of experience in advanced modeling and simulations of complex structural/mechanical systems. He is the developer of multiple analytical and computational methods utilized by the aerospace, defense, biomechanics, and offshore industries. His nonlinear modal synthesis method was utilized by the Space Shuttle program from 2005 to final flight to assess the impact of contact/re-contact nonlinearities on payload response in liftoff and landing transient coupled loads analysis. His work for the NESC on the application of frequency-domain modal synthesis to random vibration mass attenuation and force limiting led to a generalization of Norton-Thevenin which proved a measurable improvement to N-T when compared to test. His multi-physics nonlinear simulations are utilized by the offshore industry to assess risk and reliability in multiple applications. He is the developer of a mixed boundary variant, the residual flexibility mixed-boundary method, implemented in commercial FEA programs.

Arya is a charter member of the NESC L&D TDT. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University, Houston, Texas.
