NASA Spinoff Public Service Announcements (PSAs)

In the early 1980s, the U.S. Space Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of space exploration, created a series of public service announcements (PSAs) to inform people about the many tangible benefits of NASA’s space program. These benefits reach all facets of everyday life, from advanced medical imaging to improved weather forecasting, and the cast of supporters they found to promote these benefits was just as varied, from presidents to comedians. The politicians and celebrities in these videos represent a wide range of industries and interests, but the common theme that brings them together is a belief in the importance of a robust program of space exploration and the benefits that come from such an investment.
Ex-presidents speak about the myriad technologies that have resulted from facing the challenges of space flight. These technology benefits pervade our lives, invisible yet critical to so many aspects of our daily activities and well-being.

"That Apollo program produced technologies that have improved kidney dialysis and water purification systems; sensors to test for hazardous gasses; energy-saving building materials; fire-resistant fabrics used by firefighters and soldiers. More broadly, the enormous investment in that era –- in science and technology, in education and research funding –- produced a great outpouring of curiosity and creativity, the benefits of which have been incalculable.
