Artist rendition of TRACE spacecraft Artist rendition of TRACE, launched on April 1, 1998 The Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) will complete its final observing sequence on June 21 and will likely be turned off a month or two after that, when cross-calibration with SDO's Atmospheric Imaging Assembly is completed. During more than 12 years of successful operations, TRACE has produced millions of images and contributed to over 1000 scientific publications. Congratulations are in order for Mission Scientist Joe Gurman (Code 671) and the many other Goddard scientists and engineers who contributed to the success of TRACE from conception to its honorable retirement.
