SDO's Instruments Labeled
The Solar Dynamics Observatory contains a suite of instruments that will provide observations leading to a more complete understanding of the solar dynamics that drive variability in Earth's environment.
The Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager will use a technique called "helioseismology" to gaze through the sun at internal processes that will help us to understand the origins of solar weather.
The Extreme Ultraviolet Variability Experiment will look at the sun in UV light with unprecedented resolution and precision.
The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly will image the solar atmosphere in multiple wavelengths to link changes on the sun's surface to interior changes. Data will include images of the sun in 10 wavelengths every 10 seconds.
