Updated 7/20/05 -- 4:11 p.m. EDT

Image of the Pacific tropical storm, Eugene, which was captured by the MODIS instrument on the Aqua satellite on July 19, 2005.

Image above: Tropical Storm Eugene is the fifth named Pacific Ocean hurricane of the season. Eugene is shown here as observed by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite. These data were obtained at 17:50 UTC (10:50 Pacific Daylight Time) on July 19, 2005. At this time, Eugene was a well formed spiral storm, though well below hurricane strength with winds around 115 kilometers per hour (60 knots). It is not projected to become a powerful storm nor come ashore in any heavily populated areas. + High resolution image Credit: NASA
