I developed a high-fidelity simulation of CALIPSO's lidar instrument, called CALIOP.
This tool is designed to generate simulated lidar backscatter data that matches the expected performance of CALIOP, The simulated data are used to test the algorithms, or equations that process the data. Once CALIPSO is operational, we will update the simulator parameters and continue to use the simulated data to test improvements to the production code.

What attracted you to the CALIPSO mission?
I was the data manager for the LITE mission, and I wanted to continue working with lidar, but from the science side. I also wanted to be involved in another mission -- it is very rewarding to see a concept start from scratch and grow into a successful mission.
What's your favorite part of your job?
I love working in a research environment -- you have to be flexible and open to change. It is very exciting. Everyday, I come in and I don't know what to expect. I have learned a great deal from my work.
Tell us more about you...
Running and training for races, including everything from 5Ks to triathlons, keeps me very active. I enjoy running ultras, or long-distance races, and have completed an Ironman Triathalon, a 50 mile run, a 220 mile group ultra, among others.
