CALIPSO Co-Principal Investigator Jacques Pelon

CALIPSO Co-Principal Investigator, Jacques Pelon Jacques Pelon graduated from “Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité” in 1977 and received the degree of Docteur es Sciences in Physics from Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France in 1985. He joined the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in 1984. He is Directeur de Recherche at Service d’Aéronomie and associated to Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (both are labs of “Institut Pierre Simon Laplace”).

His research field is related to dynamics and radiation budget studies in the lower atmosphere. He is currently working on the application of active optical remote sensing using lidar systems for the characterisation of aerosol properties and aerosol-cloud interactions. He is principal investigator for the French airborne lidar programme LEANDRE and co-PI for the space mission CALIPSO jointly developed by NASA and the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES).

He lives in Paris and has two daughters (21 and 16) and amongst his hobbies, cycling is probably the one he prefers, but no longer practices it in Paris.
