POES Deputy Project Manager and Technical Manager

Mary S. Walker has been the Deputy Project Manager and Technical Manager, for the Polar Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) Project at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center since 2006. She has total technical responsibility for the development of the NOAA series of spacecraft and instruments as well as instruments for the European Meteorological Operational (MetOp) program.

Walker served as the Instrument Systems Manager for the POES Project from 2001 to 2006. Prior to joining the POES project, She served as a project formulation manager for several Phase A concept studies for the Spartan Project and was the Integration and Test Manager for the Spartan OAST-Flyer shuttle mission on STS-72. Walker was the lead Attitude Control System Engineer for the second Small Explorer mission, the Fast Auroral Snapshot Explorer. Prior to that Walker was the senior thermal engineer for the Special Payloads Division.

Ms. Walker grew up in the Washington, DC area, and now resides in Laurel with her husband and two very active teenage sons.
