Kathleen C. Powell, Langley NIFS & MUREP Coordinator

[image-51] Powell is the NIFS (NASA Internships, Fellowships, & Scholarships) and MUREP (Minority University Research and Education Programs) Coordinator at Langley Aerospace Research Center.  She is responsible for managing NASA Headquarters-funded student internships through the One-Stop-Shopping Initiative (OSSI), an innovative solution to supporting the STEM workforce of tomorrow. Along with the duties associated with OSSI, she also fulfills NASA HQ reporting requirements, conducts LaRC technology exchanges, and supports the University Affairs Officer with educational affiliated programs. Powell is with ManTech International, Inc. and has been an advocate of education since she joined the Office of Education in 1994.   She has brought students to LaRC through the OSSI recruitment system for three years, managing the summer, fall, and spring students selected through OSSI, and has placed over 125 students from minority and majority institutions with the focus being on minority institutions and students with disabilities. She has participated in numerous career fairs, symposiums, and has been a board member of the Cooperating Hampton Roads Organizations for Minorities in Engineering (CHROME) since 2003.  She has also represented LaRC at the 2011 Education Stakeholders' Summit held in Chantilly, VA, serving as a panel member and panel moderator.  For more information on OSSI, please visit https://intern.nasa.gov/ossi/web/public/main/index.cfm?solarAction=view&subAction=content&contentCode=HOME_PAGE_INTERNSHIPS.
