NOAA’s GOES East satellite captured this visible image of the weather system that has produced severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in Louisiana today, Feb. 7, 2017.

According to USA Today, the National Weather Service has confirmed that at least three tornadoes have touched down in the New Orleans area. These storms have reportedly downed trees and power lines, damaged property, and caused unspecified injuries. Tornado watches and severe weather warnings remain in effect across large portions of Louisiana and Mississippi and Alabama.

This image was created by combining visible channel data from NOAA’s GOES East satellite with NASA’s “Blue Marble” data set to create colorized images of atmospheric conditions over the region.
