The Mars Entry Descent and Landing Instrument 2 (MEDLI2) will record critical environmental and system performance data for the Mars 2020 vehicle during the Entry and Descent phase. The Thermal Protection Materials Branch at NASA Ames supports the MEDLI2 project with key roles such as overall hardware lead for the thermal instrumentation (MISP subsystem), fabrication and assembly of the forebody and backshell flight TC plugs, heat flux sensor performance characterization testing, and flight heat flux sensor calibration.
