Luke Delaney

Luke Delaney was selected by NASA to join the 2021 Astronaut Candidate Class and is currently undergoing two years of astronaut training.

Quick Facts

The Florida native holds degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering, and was a distinguished naval aviator participating in exercises throughout the Asia Pacific region and conducting combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

As a test pilot, Delaney executed numerous flights evaluating weapon system integrations, and served as a test pilot instructor.

At the time of his selection as an Astronaut Candidate, Delaney worked as a Research Pilot at NASA’s Langley Research Center where he supported airborne science missions.

(6 December 2021) NASA Astronaut Candidate Luke Delaney, one of 10 new NASA astronaut candidates, was announced during an event Dec. 6, 2021, at Ellington Field near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. NASA’s new astronaut candidates will begin about two years of training in January 2022, after which they could be assigned to missions performing research on the International Space Station, launching from American soil on spacecraft built by commercial companies, and launching on Artemis missions to the Moon on NASA’s new Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System rocket.
