Introduction

This section provides an HTML version of the Technical Debrief. A copy of the same information in a pdf version is here.

The Technical Debrief was carried out on 5 May 1972, eight days after the successful conclusion to the mission and while the events of the mission were still vivid in the memory of the crew. It was very much a "hot" debrief conducted by Deke Slayton, the Head of the Astronaut Office in Houston, in an informal style but to a set agenda. The crew were supported by notes made by the crew during their sea and air journey back from the mod-Pacific Ocean splash-down point. It is worth comparing the informal style of this debrief with the formal report by John Young which appears in the Commanders Report section of the Mission Report.

Extracts from the Technical Debrief are included in the main mission transcripts in the rest of the Flight Journal, where appropriate. Links to some of the key mission events will be included in the Debrief text, to allow readers to link to the issues being discussed.
