Description: Detection of radiological and nuclear threats in urban areas is difficult due to the relatively short range of radiation signatures compared to the size of the search area and the ever-present background radiation. Radiation detection algorithms are typically designed, evaluated and optimized using experimental determinations in semi-controlled areas where background radiation may not be fully understood or other unknowns may be present. This competition will provide a common set of data to evaluate both old and new techniques in detecting, identifying and locating radiological and nuclear threats.
