The Liberty Star and the Freedom Star – these two seafaring vessels were instrumental in retrieving the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) after splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean. Teams of divers recovered the two boosters after every launch, then the ship’s crew towed the SRBs to Cape Canaveral for refurbishment. The NASA sea ships, built specifically for this task, recovered these reusable rockets designed to control costs in the Space Shuttle Program.
