Cloud Top Lightning Phenomena

Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashs (TGFs), red sprites, blue jets and gigantic jets are just some of the known phenomena that occur above the tops of active thunder clouds. A new experiment called "Firestation", now attached to the exterior of the International Space Station, aims to find out more about these and other atmospheric phenomena. Firestation is a package of sensors designed to explore the links between TGFs, ordinary lightning, and sprites.
