As part of NASA’s larger mission to advance scientific understanding and promote innovation, we are driven by a sense of responsibility to make our knowledge freely available. Our hope is for others to apply what we see and learn in order to help address humanitarian needs on local and global levels.
To accomplish this we need to work more closely with those who use NASA information and are at the forefront of addressing humanitarian needs––users of our data, collaborators, and formal partners. After NASA collects the data it takes a strong partnership with organizations to turn the information into action.

NASA invests in this work because we believe science plays an essential role in society. When successfully applied, science informs wise decision-making and helps people predict and prepare for the future.

We are increasingly aware that putting science out into the world is not enough. We need to understand how this knowledge can be helpful to people on the ground, how our data and models can be even more useful, and what additional questions and needs surface as a result.
