1993: An artist's conception of the Advanced Communications Technology Satellite (ACTS) being deployed from a space shuttle.  Launched into Earth's orbit in 1993, ACTS was developed by NASA Glenn. It transmitted signals all over North and South America at high speeds and pioneered new initiatives in communications satellite technology.  (C-1987-01695)
