|SCIENCE ON A SPHERE|
You won't need a spacecraft to have an astronauts-eye-view of the planets and moons in our solar system at our Science On a Sphere Theatre.
Science On a Sphere® (SOS) is a room sized, global display system that uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data onto a six foot diameter sphere, analogous to a giant animated globe. Researchers at NOAA developed Science On a Sphere® as an educational tool to help illustrate Earth System science to people of all ages. Animated images of atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature can be shown on the sphere, which is used to explain what are sometimes complex environmental processes, in a way that is simultaneously intuitive and captivating.
Science On a Sphere creates stunning visual effects from real scientific data, and displays them on a six-foot-diameter globe suspended from the ceiling. The animated sphere seems to float in space - just as an astronaut would see the Earth!
3D video projectors show the audience clear, striking images of our Earth, storms on Jupiter, our moon Luna and MUCH more to help visitors of all ages better understand our world and our solar system.
This interactive spherical display allows visitors to delve even deeper into our solar system. Select the sun, planets or their moons from the touch screen and watch them appear on the sphere right before your eyes! The "Magic Planet" exhibit is located at the entrance of the Science on a Sphere Theatre.
