HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE REPAIR CREW VISITS STENNIS SPACE CENTER

Astronauts from the STS-125 mission to repair the Hubble Space 
Telescope shared accounts of their mission today at StenniSphere, the 
visitor center at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center. 

The crewmembers—Commander Scott Altman, Pilot Greg Johnson and Mission 
Specialists Megan McArthur, Michael Good, Drew Feustel and Mike 
Massimino—thanked Stennis employees for their contributions to the 
success of the mission and presented a plaque to Marina Benigno, 
director of center operations. 

The astronauts spent five consecutive days conducting five spacewalks 
to provide upgrades to the telescope as part of their 14-day mission 
aboard space shuttle Atlantis. They faced challenges unique to the 
mission, including dangerous debris in Hubble's vicinity and the lack 
of a safe haven normally offered in trips to the International Space 
Station. 

Hubble was in dire need of repairs but now can continue to send back 
breathtaking images, prompting further scientific discoveries and 
exploration of the universe.
