NASA/KSC Donations To Federal Campaign At All-Time High
Brevard County charities are the beneficiaries of the largest dollar-donations made by NASA employees of Kennedy Space Center in its annual fundraising drive. During the recent Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), 85 percent of the Federal employees at KSC contributed more than $354,000, exceeding the campaign goal of $280,000. More than one-third of the amount - $121,000 - was earmarked for local charities. Employees can select on the donation form how they want their contributions to be distributed.

"I am very proud of the generosity displayed by KSC employees," said KSC Director Jim Kennedy.

Campaign chairperson Susan Kroskey, said, "I am thrilled over the success of the campaign and many thanks to all the KSC employees for sharing with others in need." NASA KSC has a history of generosity, exceeding for several years the annual campaign monetary goals.

Some of the local charities participating in the CFC are the American Red Cross, Brevard County Chapter; Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Brevard County; Boys and Girls Club of Brevard Inc.; Brevard Achievement Center Inc.; Brevard Alzheimer's Foundation, Inc.; Brevard County Legal Aid, Inc; Central Brevard Sharing Center; Child Care Association of Brevard County, Inc.; and Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard.

The Combined Federal Campaign is the annual fund-raising drive conducted nationally by Federal employees in their workplace each fall. Each year Federal employees and military personnel raise millions of dollars through the CFC that benefits thousands of non-profit charities.

Fundraising for charitable organizations in the Federal workplace began in the late 1940's. In 1961, formal authority to allow fundraising in the Federal workplace was established in Executive Order 10927 signed by President John F. Kennedy. It authorized the U.S. Civil Service Commission to develop guidelines and regulate fundraising in the Federal service.
