"SHARP" Students Present Summer Research Projects July 25
Local area high school students participating in NASA's Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program (SHARP) will present their summer projects on July 25 at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex from 9 - 11 a.m.

NASA SHARP is an Agency-wide program in which selected area students are paired with KSC scientists, engineers, and technology specialists to work on research-based projects. SHARP was specifically designed to attract and increase underrepresented students’ participation and success rates in science, mathematics and technology.

To be eligible for SHARP, students must have an overall 3.0 grade-point average; demonstrate a strong interest in and aptitude for a career in mathematics, engineering, or the sciences; be a permanent Florida resident; attend school within a 50-mile radius of KSC; and be available on a full-time basis for the entire duration of the program. Twenty exceptional students from the five surrounding counties of KSC were selected from a pool of more than 100 applicants to participate in the eight-week program.

Participants from Brevard County include Hailey Loomis, Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School; Luis Quiles and Heather Sarkees, Eau Gallie High School; Cristina Lopez Del Castillo, Melbourne Central Catholic High School; Katherine Perakis, Merritt Island High School; Natasha Gray and Ashley Player, Rockledge High School; Andrea Smith, Satellite High School; Michael Davis, Kevin Smith, and Robbie Stokes, Titusville High School; Jacqueline Henkel and Robin Shaw, West Shore Junior/Senior High School. Orange County participants include Caesar Feliz, Maynard Evans High School; Antonio Cabrera, Timber Creek High School; Patrick Barnett and Miguel Morales, University High School. Seminole County participants are David Rodriguiez, Lake Brantley High School; and Ediana Feliciano, Lyman High School. Participating from Volusia County is Donald Apakama, Deland High School.
