Sam Lenck
Deputy Chief Financial Officer for Finance

Sam Lenck is the Deputy Chief Financial Officer for Finance at NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He is responsible for designing, establishing and maintaining an integrated financial management system, including accounting, analyses and financial reporting. He also serves as the principal consultant and advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and other Kennedy management officials for all matters concerning financial management. Lenck is responsible for managing the activities of 50 civil service and contractor employees assigned to the division.

Prior to his appointment to this position in May 1994, Lenck was the chief of Cost and Pricing in the Procurement Office at Kennedy for six years. His responsibility was to serve as administrative contracting officer for government contracts and to provide expert consultation services on contractual cost, pricing and financial matters to all levels of Kennedy and NASA management.

Lenck began his government career in 1974 as a tax auditor with the Internal Revenue Service. In 1976, he left the IRS to become a stock broker with Smith Barney. He returned to the IRS as a tax auditor in 1977 and became an auditor in the IRS's Internal Audit Division in 1978. He came to Kennedy in 1980 to serve as an auditor for NASA's Office of Inspector General. He became an accountant in Kennedy's Financial Management Office in 1982. Lenck left government service in 1985 for a short assignment as an internal auditor for Lockheed Corporation prior to returning to Kennedy's Procurement Office as a contract cost/price analyst in 1985.

Lenck has received numerous awards including a NASA Exceptional Service Medal, a NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and a Gold Dollar Award.

Lenck was born in Hollywood, Fla. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1973, attended Stetson College of Law, and received a master's degree in business administration from Florida Institute of Technology in 1991. He has been a certified public accountant since 1983 and is a certified government financial manager. He has a CPA practice and has taught graduate school courses in accounting and contract management at Florida Institute of Technology. Lenck is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Government Accountants. In October 2004, the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners selected him to serve on Brevard County's Internal Audit Committee. He and his wife Susan have four children and reside in Mims, Fla.
