HOUSTON – Due to the continuing cold weather conditions, NASA’s Johnson Space Center will remain closed to all non-essential personnel for all of Friday, rather than reopening at noon CST as planned.
Although the site is in good condition, a delay in the arrival of the latest cold front has kept roads icy longer than anticipated, and the commute would likely be unsafe for many employees.
The center will reopen for normal business on Monday morning. Flight control of the International Space Station will continue from Houston and the Mission Control Center at Johnson will remain open throughout this period.
A news briefing will still be held at 2 p.m. at Johnson to discuss astronaut Mark Kelly resuming training to command the STS-134 space shuttle mission. Media will have access to Johnson for the news conference. The briefing also will be broadcast on NASA Television.
