A detailed look at the planned internal spacewalk by Mir 24 Commander Anatoly Solovyev and Flight Engineer Pavel Vinogradov to reconnect power cables from the damaged Spektr module on the Mir space station will be the subject of a briefing on Monday, August 18 at 1 p.m. CDT.
The internal spacewalk, which will be conducted from the transfer node of the Mir, is currently scheduled for August 20.
NASA's Deputy Shuttle-Mir Phase One Program Manager, Jim Van Laak, and Greg Harbaugh, the Acting Manager of Johnson Space Center's EVA Project Office, will conduct the briefing, which will be broadcast on NASA Television with two-way question and answer capability for reporters at participating NASA centers.
The briefing will take place following a comprehensive review of the procedures and plans for the spacewalk which will be held earlier in the day in a readiness review by Van Laak and Valery Ryumin, the Russian Program Manager for the Shuttle-Mir program.
NASA Television is carried on GE-2, Transponder 9C at 85 degrees West longitude, vertical polarization, frequency 3880 Mhz, audio 6.8 Mhz.
