Up on the rooftop native wildflowers abound! Johnson Space Center Director Dr. Ellen Ochoa, along with JSC Deputy Director Steve Altemus and Joel Walker, director, JSC Center Operations, checked out the greening progress on the roof of JSC’s Building 12, one of the center’s revamped buildings.

Building 12’s innovative green roofing system reduces the urban heat island effect, takes less energy to heat and cool the building and meets Leadership in Energy and Environment Design gold certification. The more than 67,000 plants on the roof will eventually cover about 80 percent of the roof area.
