Johnson Space Center Team Members Pay Their Respects to Fallen Houston Fire Department Heroes
June 6, 2013

On June 5, the Johnson Space Center Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with the Houston Fire Department (HFD), raised and lowered four flags above Mission Control in honor of the four HFD firefighters who lost their lives on May 31. Capt. Matthew Renaud, 35, Engineer-Operator Robert Bebee, 41, firefighter Robert Garner, 29, and probationary firefighter Anne Sullivan, 24, were killed when a roof collapsed on them shortly after entering a fire at the Bhojan Restaurant and Southwest Inn on the Southwest Freeway. It was the most firefighters lost in a single incident or day in the history of the HFD. More than 100 JSC team members came out to pay their respects to the fallen Houston heroes. The flags will later be presented to the families by officials from the HFD, who were at JSC for the ceremony and to receive the flags.
