    The Systems Engineering Simulator (SES) is a real-time, crew-in-the-loop engineering simulator for the space station and advanced programs. It supports both crew training and engineering analysis of on-orbit operations where the human-machine interface is important, and interactions between vehicles or subsystems are significant.

    SES contains:

    • ISS cupola mockup with a Robotic Work Station (RWS) in the dome
    • Models of ISS visiting vehicles, including HTV, Dragon, and Cygnus
    • Orion crew station mockup (upright for on-orbit, reclined for ascent/entry)
    • Multi-mission Space Exploration Vehicle (MMSEV) mockup
    • Stand alone Dynamic Skills Trainers (DSTs) for Robotics, Rendezvous/Prox Ops, and Ascent/Entry training

    SES uses common software in several areas:

    • Virtual reality laboratory scenes
    • Trick architecture
    • Plume modeling
    • Vehicle guidance, navigation and control (GN&C) FSW
    • High fidelity berthing and docking contact and mechanism models
    • Docking contact dynamics
    • Robotic manipulator dynamics
