NASA Correction on Recent Mars Launch Vehicle Story
NASA has not selected a launch vehicle for the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) mission. NASA issued an intent-to-sole-source notice last month based on MAVEN mission requirements. However, this process is not complete, and no procurement action or contract award has been made.

MAVEN has not yet been approved to continue beyond the preliminary design phase. A decision for proceeding to the next phase is planned for September 2010. Should the mission be confirmed by NASA to continue to the next phase, NASA will procure the launch vehicle service necessary for the mission at that time.
