Holiday Gifts, Education and Entertainment: Get It All at NASA Glenn Visitor Center

Need ideas for what to do during the holiday season? Don't stay at home; instead bring the family to the Visitor Center at NASA's Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, for an exciting day filled with mind-expanding activities. Its interactive exhibits, video presentations and gift shop are just a few of the attractions for people of all ages to explore the world of air and space flight.

Over 6,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and historic artifacts are on display at the Visitor Center. Exhibits include a moon rock and an original Apollo Command Module. You can also visit the "Aero Adventure: Innovating Tomorrow's Engines" gallery, where a flight simulator allows you to sit in the cockpit of various aircraft to experience the thrill of flying. Daily highlights at the Visitor Center include hourly video presentations featuring space missions, launches and astronaut experiences.

If you're a shopper, the Visitor Center's Gift Shop regularly offers unique t-shirts and other NASA clothing as well as astronaut ice cream and other space-related gifts for children of all ages.

A special weekday event will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Two presentations, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., will be given by, respectively, Glenn scientists Marc Millis on "The Drive for Interstellar Travel" and Bryan Palaszewski, on advanced propulsion concepts. Both talks will take place in Glenn's Visitor Center Auditorium.

Also for this special event, visitors can get a free souvenir photo at the "Picture Yourself in Space" booth. Kids can join in with "make & take" craft activities and take home handouts.

Admission to the Visitor Center is free and the building is wheelchair accessible. The Visitor Center is located at 21000 Brookpark Road. All adult visitors must present government-issued identification upon entering the Center's Main Gate. Access to the Visitor Center is limited to U.S. Citizens. All vehicles are subject to inspection.

Normal hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. The Visitor Center will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 24 and 25, as well as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
