Heroes in Space Honored at NASA

Trailblazers of space exploration will be the focus of "Space Heroes", a special event to be held Saturday, February 21 in the Visitor Center at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland.

Visitors will learn about the history of space exploration and the heroes who made it possible. Jeffrey Woytach, Integration and Validation Manager in Glenn's Power and Propulsion Office, will give a special presentation at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. about the many events and people who were instrumental in our continuing venture into space. Contributors such as Abe Silverstein and Robert Goddard will be highlighted in addition to many more well known astronauts such as John Glenn and Neil Armstrong.

A new exhibit in memory of the Columbia crew, the Combustion Module-2 Crew Trainer, allows visitors to learn more about the science that was part of Columbia's STS-107 Mission. This exhibit is the actual module that the STS -107 crew used in training. It has been enhanced to incorporate interactive features.

Other attractions available at the Visitor Center include:

  • original Apollo Command Module
  • new Astronaut Memorial Wall
  • original Jim Lovell space suit
  • "Picture Yourself in Space History" photo booth
