Troy A. Asher is a research test pilot and aerospace engineer at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center.

Troy A. Asher is a research test pilot and aerospace engineer at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center, Edwards, CA. Asher joined the flight operations staff in 2008 following an more than two-decade career as an Air Force officer and pilot, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

As a research pilot at NASA Armstrong, Asher conducts flight test and airborne research on various aircraft, including the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, or SOFIA; the DC-8; the Gulfstream II and III; the F-18; the T-34; and the X-56 unmanned aircraft system. He has piloted science and support missions to the North Pole, Antarctica, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, Central and South America, and has supported numerous other projects as a chase pilot.

During his 24-year military career, he served as an instructor at Williams Air Force Base, AZ, and the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, which he attended as a member of Class 98B, and was commander of the 419th Flight Test Squadron and director of the Bomber Combined Test Force, both at Edwards. While at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH, he was program manager and chief of low observables at the B-2A system program office. In the B-1, he set 25 world speed records in 2003.

A Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO, with a bachelor's degree in astronautical engineering, Asher received a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Fresno State University, Fresno, CA, where he graduated with honors.

Asher was also a Dean's Medalist at Fresno State University, and is a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots. Military honors he has received include the Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
