NASA Dryden aircraft technician Don Bailes was assisted by two mission scientists in positioning the Laser Vegetation Imaging Sensor’s instrumentation rack in NASA’s DC-8 airborne science laboratory in preparation for the Fall 2009 Operation IceBridge mission. The mission was a study of Antarctica’s sea ice, glaciers, and ice sheets. Developed at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, the laser altimeter collected data on topography and vegetation coverage.September 29, 2009
