Jeffrey D. Scargle is a research astrophysicist in the Planetary Systems Branch, Astrobiology and Space Science Division at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif.

Scargle studies high-energy astrophysics, using data from the NASA Great Observatories, especially in the X-ray and Gamma-ray spectrum. He has pioneered the development of statistical and data analysis techniques for analysis of astrophysical time series, images and other data.
Scargle earned a B. A. summa cum laude, from Pomona College, Claremont, Calif., and a doctorate from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif.
