NASA ADMINISTRATOR TO DELIVER MAJOR ADDRESS ON ASTROBIOLOGY
NASA Administrator Daniel S. Goldin will deliver a major policy address on the agency's new direction in Astrobiology, the study of life in the Universe, during a news conference on Tuesday, May 18, 1999. The news conference will begin at 11:00 a.m. PDT in the main auditorium, Building N-201, at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA. Reporters should plan to arrive at Ames by 10:30 a.m. The new director of NASA's Astrobiology Institute (NAI), based at Ames, will also be introduced during the news conference.
The news conference will be televised live on NASA TV; questions will be taken from news reporters at Ames and reporters at participating NASA field centers. NASA TV broadcasts on GE-2 (C-Band satellite), transponder 9C at 85 degrees west longitude, with vertical polarization with a downlink frequency of 3880 MHz and audio of 6.8 MHz.
In addition, live televised interview opportunities will be available that afternoon on NASA TV with the new NASA Astrobiology Institute Director from 5-7 p.m. EDT (2-4 p.m. PDT) and with Scott Hubbard, the interim director of the institute, from 7-9 p.m. EDT (4-6 p.m. PDT). To reach NASA Ames, take the Moffett Field exit off US 101 and drive east to the main gate, Moffett Federal Airfield. Obtain visitor passes and directions at the Visitor Badging Office. The auditorium is located directly behind the Ames Administration Building, N-200. Park in front of the Administration Building, and walk through the lobby to the auditorium.
