Shuttle Blanket Test
On the evening of Aug. 3, 2005, personnel at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., tested space shuttle thermal blanket material in the Center's supersonic wind tunnel. After reviewing the results of these tests, NASA managers determined that a fourth spacewalk was not required to repair or remove the damaged thermal blanket near Discovery's cockpit window, and that the blanket poses no danger to the crew during re-entry.
