The second part of the physiological training was held at NASA's Sonny Carter Training Facility. Students were taught the symptoms of hypoxia (oxygen deprivation) and experienced the symptoms in an altitude chamber that simulated the oxygen concentration at high altitudes. Students wore oxygen masks for part of the hypoxia demonstration. Prior to entering the altitude chamber, students were fitted with communications helmets and oxygen masks. The helmets are also called Snoopy caps. Here, Colorado students Kristian Hahn and Steven Ramm are fitted with helmets and masks.
