Media are invited to participate in a panel discussion with planetary scientists during the third annual Exploration Science Forum, July 20-22, 2016, hosted by NASA’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI) at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.
On Friday, July 22, at noon PDT, media will hear from a panel of experts in the exploration science community about human exploration targets of interest, including the moon, near-Earth asteroids, and the moons of Mars.
Panelists will include:
- Jim Head, deputy principal investigator of the SSERVI Environment and Evolution of Exploration Destinations team, will discuss recent mission results and in-depth analyses of current science and exploration studies.
- Phil Bland, lead of SSERVI’s Australian partnership, will discuss the Desert Fireball Network, which is an end-to-end system that goes from seeing a shooting star to holding it in your hand.
- Brian Day, SSERVI’s lead for planetary modeling and citizen science, will show 3-D surface flyovers of the moon, Mars and other target bodies of interest.
SSERVI, a virtual institute of national and international partnerships, enables cross-team and interdisciplinary research, designed to push the boundaries of science and exploration. NASA’s Science Mission Directorate and Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate jointly fund SSERVI.
