George T. Whitesides serves as NASA Chief of Staff for Administrator Charles Bolden.

From 2004 – 2008, Whitesides served as the Executive Director of the National Space Society, a public space education and advocacy group. Whitesides also served as Chairman of the Reusable Launch Vehicle Working Group for the FAA’s Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee, and Senior Advisor to Virgin Galactic, a space tourism and research venture.

Whitesides has testified before the United States Senate on American space policy and for the President’s Commission on Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy. He has appeared on a variety of media outlets as a commentator on space policy.

Whitesides has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including Princeton University, Astronomers Without Borders, the Secure World Foundation, and the Space Generation Foundation. With Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides, he co-founded Yuri’s Night, an annual global celebration of space. Whitesides began his career at Orbital Sciences Corporation as Executive Intern and subsequently Special Assistant to the President.

Whitesides received his undergraduate degree in public and international affairs with honors from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School, and his masters degree in geographic information systems and remote sensing from the University of Cambridge in England. Upon graduation from Princeton, he was selected for a Fulbright Scholarship. Whitesides is a licensed private pilot.
