NASA and Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) Coordination in Heliophysics Science
August 12, 2010

Heliophysics is the study of the Sun and its interactions with Earth and the solar system. Credit: NASA NASA and the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) signed a Letter of Agreement on July 29, 2010, expressing mutual interest in pursuing cooperation in solar and space physics (heliophysics) and space weather research. Sharing the data of new NASA missions, in particular the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), Radiation Belt Storm Probe (RBSP), and Magnetospheric MultiScale (MMS) missions, will increase their scientific output and productivity to the benefit of heliophysics overall. Since both NASA and KASI have similar pursuits and goals, establishing an agreement for cooperation between scientists from Korea and the U.S. should advance and broaden heliophysics science and space weather research
