These images show the global distribution of mid-tropospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) as observed by the AIRS instrument on NASA's Aqua spacecraft for July 2003, July 2005, July 2007, and July 2009. The data show the average concentration in parts per million (ppm) over an altitude range of 3 km to 13 km. The overall color of the images shift toward yellow with advancing time due to the annual increase of CO2.
