Test engineer Mark D'Aprile checks out a supersonic jet concept model mounted in the Langley Unitary Wind Tunnel

Image above: Test engineer Mark D'Aprile checks out a small, needle-nosed model of a supersonic jet concept, mounted in the Langley Unitary Wind Tunnel.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and the NASA Supersonics project conducted wind tunnel tests at speeds from Mach 1.5 to Mach 1.8 to study sonic boom characteristics of the unusual configuration.

The NASA Supersonics project is working to develop technologies that would allow environmentally friendly, efficient passenger flight above the speed of sound.
