Major Completed Actions

NASA completed all awards of Science, Exploration, Cross-Agency Support, and Aeronautics contracts and cooperative agreements in accordance with applicable Program Plans and Recovery Act provisions, and more than 83% of funds appropriated have been disbursed for those projects.

Aeronautics: Aeronautics Test Program at the Ames Research Center (ARC), completed several activities for the Ames Compressor Reactivation Project the installation of the rebuilt compressor lubricating oil system heat exchanger, and completed cooling tower maintenance.

Science: For Research Science, the Virtual Terrestrial Observation and Prediction System (V-TOPS) sensor network installations were completed in collaboration with Palm Farms and Del Monte in California; for Airborne Science, the WB-57 aircraft tooling and documentation for honeycomb panels and trim tab was shipped, and the leading edge assembly jig design was completed and fabrication has begun; for Venture Class, the Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment (CARVE) flight class hardware was shipped and integration continues. NASA's Glory mission ended March 4 after the spacecraft failed to reach orbit following its launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and NASA has begun the process of creating a Mishap Investigation Board to evaluate the cause of the failure.

Cross-Agency Support for Hurricane Damage Repair Projects at the Johnson Space Center (JSC): NASA continues to support a performance audit on the Cross-Agency Support JSC Hurricane Repair activities which began on August 31st.

Planned Actions

NASA will continue quality assurance of quarterly recipient reporting in March.

Aeronautics: ARC installation of the new evacuation side line filter to be completed in March and a functional test of the air dryer vessels will be performed in March for the Aeronautics Test Program; Supersonics at GRC for fabrication of the wind tunnel models and test planning will continue.

Science: Continue Research Science, Virtual Terrestrial Observation and Prediction System (V-TOPS), sensor network installations in California; and Venture Class flight planning for the Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment (CARVE). The Airborne Science Cryospheric Evolution of the Central Antarctic Plate (ICECAP) flights for boundary conditions, and the Airborne Microwave Observatory of Subcanopy and Subsurface (AirMOSS) radar performance trade study, mechanical configuration and GeoSAR antenna performance, will continue in March.

Cross-Agency Support for Hurricane Damage Repair Projects at the Johnson Space Center (JSC): All CAS restoration projects are completed; no additional repairs are planned.

Exploration: The WFF Horizontal Integration Facility ribbon cutting schedule is TBD. The CCDev Abort system hardware demonstration engine assembly and Emergency Detection System (EDS) demonstration report and review will continue in March.
