Major Completed Actions

NASA completed all awards of Science, Exploration, Cross-Agency Support, and Aeronautics contracts and cooperative agreements in accordance with applicable Program Plans and Recovery Act provisions, and more than 76% of funds appropriated have been disbursed for those projects.

Exploration: At Wallops Flight Facility (WFF), Horizontal Integration Facility, further electrical system power up activities were completed. At Stennis Space Center (SSC), the break in and final acceptance testing was completed on the air compressor; the installation of the LOX pumps and all of the acceptance testing on the first barge; LOX pump A was installed on the second LOX barge; in addition, transfer piping and components continue to be installed for complete the LOX and liquid hydrogen transfer lines replacements.

Science: Sea Ice Mission (IceBridge) Antarctica flight data out of Punta Arenas, Chile, continues to provide optimistic analysis results, as does the glacier surface evaluation data analysis from the Airborne Science Operation IceBridge (OIB-Alaska 2010) over the Stikine Icefield, Glacier Bay, Yakutat Icefield, St. Elias Range, Chugach Range and the Columbia Glacier regions. The Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO-2) flight computer was successfully tested and delivered, ahead of schedule.

Aeronautics: At Glenn Research Center (GRC) the refrigeration building reinforcement steel was placed and floor slab was poured for the Glenn IRT Refrigeration and Tunnel HEX Project. At Langley Research Center (LARC), the Rotorcraft Control room modifications were completed in the 14x22 Wind Tunnel Mod Project.

Cross-Agency Support for Hurricane Damage Repair Projects at the Johnson Space Center (JSC): NASA continues to support a performance audit on the Cross-Agency Support JSC Hurricane Repair activities which began on August 31st.

Planned Actions

Exploration: Over the next month, the WFF Horizontal Integration Facility will be completed, as well as the LOX barge and tug refurbishments and check-out at SSC. The CCDev Nevada Dream Chaser engineering test article structure proof testing and the Paragon Air Revitalization System engineering development unit integrated ground test & final report are scheduled for mid-December.

Science: The Airborne Microwave Observatory of Subcanopy and Subsurface (AirMOSS) radar performance trade study, mechanical configuration and GeoSAR antenna performance, will continue through December.

Aeronautics: ARC installation of compressor intercooler tube bundles and replacement of desiccant in the air dryer vessels will be completed in December, as well as Phase 1 construction items on the PSL Ice Crystal Capability Project at GRC. Supersonics fabrication of wind tunnel models and test planning will also continue at GRC through December.

Cross-Agency Support for Hurricane Damage Repair Projects at the Johnson Space Center (JSC): Completion of the Hangar E280 project is anticipated in December.
