Major Completed Actions

NASA completed all awards of Science, Exploration, Cross-Agency Support, and Aeronautics contracts and cooperative agreements in accordance with applicable Program Plans and Recovery Act provisions, and more than 76% of funds appropriated have been disbursed for those projects.

Exploration: At Wallops Flight Facility (WFF), Horizontal Integration Facility, crane installation is complete, as well as 95% of high bay system rough-in work installation; and the trimming, finishing, painting and fixture installation in the low bay, all remain in progress. At Stennis Space Center (SSC), air compressor repairs continue, as does installation of hardware on LOX Barge #1. The outboard LOX pump installation on LOX Barge #5 is complete. In addition, system checkouts continue. The Commercial Crew Development (CCDEV) preliminary indication milestone was successfully completed for Space Act Agreement (SAA) Milestone 4, Engineering Development Unite (EDU) assembly report for the Air Revitalization System (ARS) therefore completing ARS design thru Preliminary Design Review (PDR) along with development of an EDU that has completed functional testing.

Science: Sea Ice Mission (IceBridge) Antarctica is used to gather sea ice freeboard data using lasers, and snow depth on sea ice using radars. The team for the airborne laser, called the Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM), continues to be on deployment in Punta Arenas, Chile, for flights to Antarctica on the NASA DC8. High altitude flight data was completed along the ICESat convergence at 86S and low altitude gravity flight data, ice penetrating radar and laser data on a variety of glaciers, was started. Final delivery of the brassboard laser has been received for the ICESat 2 and final acceptance will mark the end of ICESat 2 ARRA tasks.

Aeronautics: Preparations and fabrication of hardware for the sonic boom testing in the 9x7 wind tunnel have been completed for Supersonics at Ames Research Center (ARC). Testing of the trajectory constraints generator software in the Airspace and Traffic Operations Simulations was completed at Langley Research Center (LaRC) for Airspace Systems.

Cross-Agency Support for Hurricane Damage Repair Projects at the Johnson Space Center (JSC): NASA continues to support a performance audit on the Cross-Agency Support JSC Hurricane Repair activities which began on August 31st.

Planned Actions

Exploration: Over the next month, the WFF Horizontal Integration Facility will be completed, as well as the LOX barge and tug refurbishments and check-out at SSC. The CCDEV EDU will undergo integrated ground testing as part of their final milestone scheduled for completion in December.

Science: The DC-8 aircraft flights out of Punta Arenas, Chile over Antarctica, will continue through mid-November.

Aeronautics: At Langley Research Center (LaRC) a final report will be produced in November on comparisons between the GTM wing models and the equivalent plate models for IRAC; at Ames Research Center (ARC) the installation of compressor intercooler tube bundles and replacement of desiccant in the air dryer vessels will be completed in November, as well as Phase 1 construction items on the PSL Ice Crystal Capability Project at GRC.

Cross-Agency Support for Hurricane Damage Repair Projects at the Johnson Space Center (JSC): Completion of the Hangar E280 project is anticipated in December, as well as the roof repair for Chamber B in Building 32.
