In celebration of Glenn’s 75th anniversary, NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland is having a technology showcase featuring interactive exhibits and the latest technologies created for aeronautics and space on Tuesday May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The exhibits will show how the latest space technology advances medicine, improves water quality, designs safer and more efficient airplanes, and brings new solutions to everyday challenges.
The event also provides an opportunity to learn how NASA’s space and aeronautics technology helps enable agency goals while improving products and services that benefit life here on Earth.
John M. Sankovic, Glenn’s director of the Office of Technology Incubation and Innovation will give remarks at 8:30 a.m. and will be on hand to discuss with media how investments in space technology and innovation act as a catalyst for America’s new technology economy.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., registrants will be able to participate in four guided facility tours, 50-minute briefing sessions and speed networking with NASA senior executives.
At noon, NASA Associate Administrator for the Space Technology Mission Directorate Steve Jurczyk, Glenn’s Director of Space Flight Systems Bryan K. Smith, and NASA astronaut and U.S. Navy Capt. Sunita Williams will lead a panel discussion about “NASA’s Journey to Mars: Science Fiction Meets Reality.” Williams is one of four astronauts supporting the agency’s Commercial Crew Program and its work with U.S. companies to return human spaceflight launches to the United States.
The event is open to aerospace and technology representatives, local business leaders, state and local government officials and members of academia.
Technology Day is part of a yearlong celebration of Glenn’s 75th anniversary year, which began January 23, 2016. Other anniversary events include a free open house at Lewis Field May 21 and 22 and Glenn’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky on June 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
