NASA Awards the SNPP VIIRS Atmosphere Science Investigator-led Processing System (SIPS) Contract

NASA has awarded Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Atmosphere Science Investigator-led Processing System (SIPS) contract to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, Wisconsin.

The total value of this cost-no fee completion-type contract is $8,844,100. The contract includes a base year that begins on Sept. 4, and has Options to extend through December 31, 2019.

The Contractor will process and re-process the data from the SNPP VIIRS instrument and deliver standard and near real time Level 2 and 3 atmospheric data products. In general, the atmospheric products will include, but are not limited to, products such as cloud mask, cloud cover/layers, cloud effective particle size, cloud top height, cloud top pressure, cloud top temperature, cloud base height, cloud optical thickness, aerosol optical thickness, aerosol particle size and suspended matter. The Contractor will deliver all data products along with scientific algorithm software, associated metadata, and documentation to the NASA-assigned Distributed Active Archive Center, the Level 1 and Atmosphere Archive and Distribution System at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland.

The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite was launched in October 2011 and is a joint NASA and NOAA mission.
