NASA Invites Media to 57th Annual Robert H. Goddard Memorial Symposium

Media are invited to meet the leaders in the space science and engineering world at the 57th Robert H. Goddard Memorial Symposium at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center, 10000 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, Maryland, on March 20-21.

This year’s theme, “The Next Giant Leap: Earth, Moon Mars and Beyond,” celebrates recent and upcoming landmark anniversaries of NASA, Goddard and the Apollo 11 lunar mission. It will highlight basic and applied research of our home planet and how we are leveraging our expertise in all science areas to fulfill the Agency’s goal of returning humans to the Moon and developing a crewed spaceflight to Mars.

“We are also highlighting basic and applied research of our home planet and how we leverage our expertise in all science areas to fulfill the Agency’s goal of returning humans to the Moon, developing a crewed spaceflight to Mars, and looking beyond – in both space and time,” said Stephanie Uz, Chair of the symposium’s planning committee at Goddard.

Sponsored by the American Astronautical Society and supported by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, the annual Robert H. Goddard Memorial Symposium provides an opportunity for Goddard and NASA to showcase our work to leaders across government, industry, policy and academia as we collectively strive for breakthroughs in space exploration.

NASA Deputy Administrator James Morhard will deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, March 20, followed by remarks from Tim Gallaudet, Deputy Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Washington. The first day will also feature panels on open data, the commercialization of low-Earth orbit and NASA’s lunar architecture, among other subjects.

Highlights from the second day include discussions on science and human exploration, space technologies, astrophysics, heliophysics and the next 60 years of NASA, as well as a presentation by Goddard’s Nobel physics laureate John Mather – Senior Project Scientist of the James Webb Space Telescope.

Media interested in arranging interviews with NASA speakers should contact Cynthia O’Carroll at 301-286-4787 or Cynthia.M.OCarroll@nasa.gov.
