Hampton, VA – Dr. Marcia Gibson of the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), in partnership with CIBER, Inc., has been awarded the Fall 2008 Digital Video Award for the 8-minute video entitled, “Innovative Engineering Promotional DVD”. This is the second time that promotional products created by NIA/CIBER under contract to the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) has received a DV Award.

The focus of the promotional video is science innovations in an intense, one-week academic setting. The video highlights NASA experts interacting with the new generation of NASA experts and the overall objective of solving real NASA problems using unique and creative strategies.

The NESC Academy was established to capture, share and preserve the lifetimes of experience and knowledge of NASA’s senior scientists and engineers; guide the next generation of NASA scientists and engineers as they develop expertise in technical problem solving; and foster interest in NASA careers. NESC, NIA and CIBER partner to design, develop and deliver classroom experiences led by selected Technical Fellows and senior-level NASA engineers.

“We’re getting NASA’s problems into the classroom, where you have a lot more people coming up with ideas,” said Charlie Camarda, NASA Astronaut and lead faculty for the Innovative Engineering Design course. “For one week, it was more than we expected to happen.”

“This recognition of the exciting and creative promotional film for our course offerings is a wonderful tribute to the hard work the creative team has put toward the success of the promotional film and the NESC Academy itself,” stated Dr. Gibson.

The DV Awards are the result of a new and exciting international competition celebrating outstanding creative and technical achievements in the emerging world of digital video production. DV Awards recognize accomplishment in independent films, commercials, corporate communications, industrial videos, 3D animation, special effects and event videos.
