The MLAS flight demonstration will simulate an emergency on the launch pad, as illustrated by this animation. Abort motors will fire, the vehicle will rise to approximately a mile over the Atlantic and the simulated crew module will separate from the rest of the vehicle, followed by a multi-stage parachute recovery of the crew module.
